At Home Euthanasia
Arrival at your home
We arrive at your home for your appointment and meet you and your pet in the comfort of your own surroundings. We don’t mind how many people want to be present at such a difficult time. We will answer any questions you may have and talk you through the next steps.
Initial Sedation
When you are comfortable, we give an injection of a strong sedative that allows your pet to drift off into a deep sleep in their favourite spot with their family around them. We then leave you with your pet to have this moment in private.
IV Catheter Placement
Once your pet is fully asleep, it’s up to you to let us know when you are ready for the next step. We place an intravenous catheter in one of their legs to facilitate the final injection.
Final Goodbye
When you are ready we give the final injection which quickly and painlessly puts your pet to sleep. We will confirm that your pet has passed, and quietly leave them with you.

Once you’ve said goodbye…
What happens after your pet has passed is entirely your choice. There is no “usual” option, and every one of these is a loving way to say goodbye.
We will talk these options through when we confirm your visit, so nothing has to be decided on the day. We cannot take your pet with us, but a crematorium can collect from your home, usually that evening or the next morning.
Communal Cremation
Your pet is cremated with other pets, and their ashes are not returned.
It is usually the lowest-cost option. You can arrange it through your own vet or on request we can ask our preferred crematoria to discuss this with you.
Prices are set by your chosen veterinary practice
Individual cremation
Your pet is cremated alone, and their ashes are returned to you in a casket, urn or scatter tube of your choice. Our preferred crematoria, iCare Pet Crem in Whitburn and Greenland Pet Cremation in Dumbarton, both collect from your home.
A crematorium of your choice
You are welcome to use any crematorium, including one your own vet works with. Tell us when you book and we will time our visit around their collection.
Prices are set by your chosen crematorium
Burial at home
You can bury your pet on land you own, if the grave is deep enough, well away from water supplies and watercourses, and will not cause a nuisance. If you rent, check your tenancy agreement.
No charge
We do not own or have any financial interest in any crematorium, and we receive nothing for recommending one. We only pass your details to a crematorium if you ask us to.
Emergencies and Out-of-Hours
Peaceful Paws only considers your pet “under our care” at the point where we visit your home for a pre-arranged and agreed appointment. Until such time as we attend, even if an appointment has been booked, your pet remains under the care of your usual veterinary surgeon.
Following your appointment, after your pet has passed away, there is no ongoing requirement for out-of-hours or emergency care.
We do not provide emergency cover, first aid or pain relief for animals we have not yet brought under our care, and we cannot attend emergencies at short notice.
